IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING STATIONER

When you start planning your wedding you'll quickly realise that there’s a whole world out there that you didn’t even know existed! Professionals within the wedding industry speak a very specific language, and when you’re just about to dive into the excitement of dress buying, table planning and venue searching, it can help to know the right questions to ask! Here at Letter and Lime Design, I can’t help you make the decision between a long veil or a short one. I can’t enlighten you as to what DJ to choose, and I certainly can’t help you decide where to seat your guests. But I CAN help you with how to organise, plan and design your wedding stationery.

Here are the top five questions you should ask your wedding stationer.

Question 1: Can we book a consultation?

Before agreeing to work alongside a stationer, it’s crucial you are able to speak to them whether thats in person or via a zoom call. Your wedding stationery is a vital part of the workings of your wedding, and it’s so important it’s right for you. Having the opportunity to ask questions, discuss ideas and find out a bit more about your stationer, will allow the entire process to run much more smoothly. It also gives your stationer a chance to really get to know you and get a clearer sense of the atmosphere you want to create throughout your wedding day. At Letter and Lime Design, I offer every client a 30-60 minute consultation in order to give both ourselves and our clients the space to discuss ideas, clarify the process and really get to know each other.

Question 2: Do you sell matching stationary for the day?

You have chosen a beautiful Save The Date and sent it out to your guests. Your wedding invite follows, and the theme is gorgeous and consistent, when all of a sudden you realise that your stationer doesn’t sell matching stationery for the actual wedding day. On the day stationery includes your ‘order of service’ prints, your name place cards, your menu and all other printed materials that add to the magic of your day. It would be a real shame to not be able to have the design and print you started with (and truly want!) weaved throughout the rest of your wedding. Make sure you clarify this with your stationer and discuss ways you can make your colour scheme and theme consistent. At Letter and Lime Design, we’re all about making sure you and your guests receive a consistent, high quality, customised package that gives your day the shine it deserves. All of this can be discussed during your consultation and we can make sure all of your stationery reflects your personality.

Question 3: Can we change the colours on your designs?

If you and your partner have decided on a pre-designed package, make sure you ask if the colours can be changed to suit your palette. You may absolutely love the style of an invite, but want an extra pop of colour to make it come to life. By simply asking this question to your wedding stationer, you can ensure your stationery reflects you and your partner’s personality, and doesn’t just blend in with the rest. At Letter and Lime Design, we can safely say that around 90% of our colours can be changed. Just make sure to ask us when at your consultation and we’ll do everything we can to update this for you.

Question 4: When is payment due?

Couples can often feel a little awkward when discussing money and payments, but you really shouldn’t! It’s much better for everyone to be clear about when payment is expected, and asking this question can leave everything easier for everyone. We can’t speak for every wedding stationer, but here at Letter and Lime Design, we will take 50% of payment prior to beginning your designs and the other 50% will be due prior to print. This leaves the payment a lot easier on your budget, as you’re able to plan and not pay the whole installment at once.

Question 5: What information do you need to start designing?

Each designer will have their own process, and require different things from their clients. Therefore, it’s great to just ask your designer in advance, what exactly they will need to start the process. At Letter and Lime Design, we will cover this kind of information within your consultation. However, some advice we would give is, try and gather as much inspiration as possible. Maybe you saw a font on a menu that you absolutely loved. Grab a picture of it! Or maybe your friends' invites were the perfect shape and style. Bring it along! We also have clients who just spend lots of time on Pinterest and Instagram, screenshotting the stationery they like. Whatever inspires you, whatever style catches your eye and whatever colour scheme gets you excited, bring it all to the consultation and we will make something special.

The most important thing for you to remember, is that this is your day, it is your stationery and they are your memories to make. Letter and Lime Design will always make sure you are 100% happy with what we create, so take your time, have a look at what those before you have done, and put your twist on it!

I can’t wait to hear your ideas!
